Last months' cover of the New Yorker magazine depicts Barack and Michelle Obama as terrorists. Barack Obama wearing Islamic garb, Michelle wearing a Kalashnikov. On the wall a large picture of Osama Bin Laden and in the fireplace the United States flag burning. This satirical caricature is meant to criticize unfounded right-wing allegations made against Barack Obama. However, the Barack Obama campaign was outraged by the the New Yorker cartoon cover. Barack Obama spokesman Bill Burton said that "most readers will see it as tasteless and offensive. And we agree." David Remnick, the New Yorker editor, thinks, on the other hand, that most readers will understand the illustration and its intent to attack lies and misconceptions and distortions about the Obamas not being patriotic enough.
